The AI Video Prompt Guide.

Shots, camera moves, timed beats, dialogue and sound, written the way Seedance 2.5, Veo 3.1 and Kling 4.0 read them. With 12 copy-ready templates.

Call the shot.
In one paragraph

How to prompt a video.

Write each shot as one sentence a camera operator could follow: shot size, subject, action, scene, one camera move, light and style, then sound. Give every motion an end state, use timed beats like “00–04s:” only when several events must fit one clip, and put dialogue in quotation marks. For image-to-video, describe only what moves. Seedance 2.5 shines with reference images, Veo 3.1 with dialogue and sound, and Kling 4.0 with short, direct action prompts.

The video formula

One shot, one sentence.

Write it so a camera operator could follow it. End the action in a held state so the clip doesn’t drift.

  1. 01ShotShot size and angle first, so the model frames it right.“Medium close-up, eye level”
  2. 02SubjectWho or what, with the details that must stay stable.“a barista in a green apron”
  3. 03ActionVerbs in the order they happen, ending in a held state.“pours latte art, then lifts the cup”
  4. 04Scene2–4 concrete details of place and time.“small café, morning, steam in the air”
  5. 05Camera moveOne primary move per shot.“slow push-in”
  6. 06Light & styleLight source, palette, medium.“warm window light, 35mm film look”
  7. 07SoundAmbience, SFX tied to actions, dialogue in quotes.“Ambient: espresso machine hiss”
  8. 08EndingThe final frame, if it matters for your edit.“ends on the cup, centered”
Camera moves

Twelve moves. Pick one per shot.

Name the move in plain words. One primary move per shot reads far better than a combination.

  • Push inCamera moves toward the subject. Builds focus and tension.“slow push-in on her face”
  • Pull outCamera moves away to reveal context.“pull out to reveal the empty stadium”
  • PanCamera turns left or right from a fixed spot.“slow pan right across the skyline”
  • TiltCamera turns up or down from a fixed spot.“tilt up from boots to face”
  • OrbitCamera circles the subject. Great for products.“smooth 180° orbit around the bottle”
  • Crane upCamera rises to reveal scale.“crane up from the street to the rooftops”
  • TrackingCamera travels alongside a moving subject.“low tracking shot beside the runner”
  • HandheldSubtle shake for realism and urgency.“handheld, slight shake, documentary feel”
  • Whip panVery fast pan with motion blur, often a transition.“whip pan to the doorway”
  • Dolly zoomZoom one way while moving the other. Unsettling.“dolly zoom on the hallway”
  • Locked-offNo camera movement. Let the action carry the shot.“locked-off camera, static frame”
  • FPV droneFast, swooping first-person flight.“FPV drone dives through the canyon”
Shot sizes

Frame it before you move it.

Put the shot size first in your prompt. It decides how much of the subject and the world the model shows.

  • Extreme wideTiny subject, huge world. Establishes place.
  • WideFull subject with surroundings.
  • MediumWaist up. The default for people and action.
  • Close-upFace or product detail. Emotion and texture.
  • Extreme close-upAn eye, a drop, a stitch.
  • OverheadStraight down. Tables, food, layouts.
  • Low angleFrom below. Power and scale.
  • POVThrough the subject’s eyes.
Time and sound

Direct the clock and the mix.

Two tools for longer, richer clips.

Timed beats

  • Use time ranges only when several events must fit one clip. A single action doesn’t need a timeline.
  • Give each beat one action and one camera move, and name the transition: hard cut, match cut, whip pan.
  • Don’t overfill: if the beats don’t fit the length, cut beats or use the 2× duration engine (beta).
Example

00–04s: Wide shot of a surfer paddling out at dawn, locked-off camera. 04–08s: Hard cut to a low tracking shot as she stands up on the wave. 08–10s: Slow-motion close-up of spray off the board, then the wave settles.

Dialogue & sound

  • Put speech in quotation marks after who says it and how: “…says in a weary voice, “…””.
  • Label sounds: “SFX:” for effects tied to actions, “Ambient:” for the background.
  • Describe how sound changes over time, and say “no music” if you don’t want any.
Example

Close-up of a chef tasting soup in a busy kitchen. She nods and says, “Now it’s ready.” SFX: a spoon taps the pot. Ambient: kitchen clatter and sizzling pans. No music.

Model notes

Each model has a dialect.

The formula works everywhere. These habits get you the rest of the way.

Seedance 2.5

ByteDance

Best for: product shots and branded scenes that must match references, longer multi-beat clips.

  • Write direct natural-language direction: subject, action, camera, style. Skip words like “stunning.”
  • With reference uploads, tag them by role: “@image1 defines the bottle’s shape and label. Keep it identical.”
  • Use time ranges (00–05s:) only when several events must fit one clip, and name transitions: match cut, whip pan, hard cut.
  • People-focused shots may be limited. For talking heads, try Veo 3.1 or Kling.
Example

@image1 defines the ceramic vase’s shape and glaze. Keep it identical. 00–05s: The vase sits centered on a plain table as steam rises. 05–10s: The camera orbits the vase in one smooth arc. 10–15s: The shot settles into a locked three-quarter view with clean space above. Soft window light, matte textures. Gentle room tone only. No dialogue or music.

Veo 3.1

Google

Best for: scenes with dialogue, sound effects and ambience generated together.

  • Formula: cinematography + subject + action + context + style and ambiance.
  • Put speech in quotes: A woman says, “We have to leave now.”
  • Label audio: “SFX: thunder cracks in the distance.” “Ambient noise: the hum of a starship bridge.”
  • Describe what you want instead of what to remove: “a desolate landscape with no buildings.”
Example

Medium shot, a tired detective behind a cluttered desk at night, lit by a green desk lamp. He looks up at the door and says in a weary voice, “Of all the offices in this town, you had to walk into mine.” Ambient noise: rain on the window. 1940s film noir, high contrast.

Kling 4.0

Kuaishou

Best for: dynamic motion, action and stylized shots from short, direct prompts.

  • Keep it tight: subject, environment, camera, lighting, tone, in one line.
  • Always name a camera move, or you get static or random framing.
  • Give motion an end state: “…then settles back into place.”
  • For image-to-video, describe only motion, 15–40 words, and don’t re-describe the image.
Example

A street violinist under a neon-lit arcade at night, slow orbit around him, rain reflections on the pavement, melancholic blue and magenta tones, then he lowers the bow and holds still.

Grok Imagine, Wan, MiniMax and Pika

More models

Best for: quick ideas, stylized clips and comparing looks across models.

  • Start from the universal formula above. It works across all of them.
  • Run the same prompt on two models side by side on Creatide.ai and keep the better take.
  • Shorter, clearer prompts travel best between models.
  • Use the 2× duration engine (beta) when the native length is too short.
Rewrites

Same idea. Better prompt.

Three common mistakes, and the fix.

Before

a cool cinematic car video, epic, 8k, masterpiece

Buzzwords, no shot, no action, no light. The model guesses everything.
After

Low-angle tracking shot of a red 1970s sports car speeding along a coastal cliff road at sunset, waves crashing below, warm backlight and lens flare, shot on 35mm film, then the car slows into a curve.

Before

a woman walks, then runs, then jumps, then dances, then waves, camera spins and zooms

Five actions and two camera moves in one short clip. Something will break.
After

Medium tracking shot of a woman in a yellow raincoat running through a rainy city street at night, neon reflections on the pavement, then she slows to a stop and looks up.

Before

(image-to-video) a beautiful girl with long brown hair in a red dress standing in a field

Re-describing the image wastes words and can fight the picture.
After

Her hair and dress move in a light breeze, grass sways around her, clouds drift slowly, subtle push-in, then the motion settles.

FAQ

Video prompts, answered.

Straight answers to the questions people search most. Checked on October 21, 2026.

Writing video prompts06
01

How do I write a good AI video prompt?

Start with the shot size, then the subject, the action in order, the scene, one camera move, light and style, and sound. Give the motion an end state. Keep it to roughly 40–100 words for text-to-video.

02

How do I add camera movement?

Name one move per shot in plain words: slow push-in, orbit, tracking shot, crane up, handheld. For a sequence, give each beat its own move inside time ranges like “00–04s:”.

03

How do I add dialogue or sound?

On models with audio, like Veo 3.1, write speech in quotes and label sounds: “SFX: glass shatters,” “Ambient: city traffic.” Tie each sound to something visible.

04

How do I prompt image-to-video?

Describe only what moves, how fast and what stays still, in about 15–40 words. Don’t re-describe what’s already in the picture.

05

How do I make longer AI videos?

Plan beats with time ranges, use the 2× duration engine (beta) for up to 60 seconds in 8K with Seedance 2.5, or continue a shot with Video Extend from its last frame.

06

Why does my video stall or look jittery?

Usually too many actions, competing camera moves, or motion with no ending. Cut events, keep one move, and finish with “then settles” or “then holds still.”

Models and output04
07

Which video model should I use?

Seedance 2.5 for reference-matched products and long beats, Veo 3.1 for dialogue and sound, Kling 4.0 for dynamic action. On Creatide.ai you can try them all on one balance.

08

Can I keep the same character across clips?

Use reference images and say what they control, repeat key details in every prompt, and keep the lens and light consistent between shots.

09

Can I put text in an AI video?

Short on-screen text sometimes works, but for campaign copy it’s safer to add titles in editing. Use Creatide.ai’s Subtitles for captions.

10

What resolution do I get?

Every video model on Creatide.ai is auto-upscaled to up to 8K (7680 × 4320), with no extra export step.

Model names are trademarks of their owners. Tips are based on each model’s public documentation and guides, checked on October 21, 2026. Models update often, so results can vary.
